About LegalSums
LegalSums is a set of free calculators for the money side of legal problems in the UK: court and probate fees, what you are owed when a job ends, criminal injury compensation, inheritance shares and visa costs.
Why it exists
The figures people need at these moments are public, but they sit in fee orders, statutory instruments, scheme documents and Home Office tables that change at different times of year. Most people only want to know what something will cost or what they are owed, and whether a quote or an offer looks reasonable. The calculators do that sum, show the working and link to the source.
Who runs it
[Owner name and a short, true description of who they are] runs LegalSums from [town or city], United Kingdom. Pages are written by the author named on each page and checked by the reviewers listed on the authors and reviewers page.
How it is funded
The site is free to use. It may carry advertising, and if it ever links to a paid service in return for a fee, that link will be labelled where it appears. Advertisers have no say over the figures or the wording.
What it is not
LegalSums is independent. It is not part of HM Courts and Tribunals Service, the Home Office, the Office of the Public Guardian, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority or any other public body, and it is not a law firm. It does not give legal advice. See the disclaimer.
